Troop 2 Red Rock Canyon 2009.03.21 : We camped out at the Red Cliffs Day Use Area of the Red Rock Canyon State Park with special permission. We will remember it for the sun, strong winds, clouds, rain, and rainbows, all at the same time. The wonderful scenery served well as the background for this Myanium Camp.

Troop 2 Hiking MB Will Rogers SHP 2009.03.08 : Hiking Merit Badge 10 Mile Hike #4. We started at Will Rogers State Historic Park. Started with a deer sighting, and took the trail to the Inspiration Point. From there, we took the Backbone Trail (Rogers Road) to the Temescal Fire Road then to the Eagle Rock Fire Road. A short way up the Eagle Rock Fire Road, there is a bench set up on an overlook. Thanks to the Goetz Family who donated the bench, we took a lunch break there. "Rest for the weary" as inscribed on the bench. We then headed back the same way we came. With the recent rain falls, wildflowers are starting to bloom. We saw a gigantic wild cucumber on the way up. Many bikers were out riding the trails, and we saw two horses going by on the trail. It was a mostly sunny day, but it bare broke 60 degrees. Another great day for hiking.

Troop 2 Hiking MB Pt. Mugu 2009.02.28 : Another 10-mile hike. We started at the Sycamore Canyon Trailhead and took the Sycamore Canyon Fire Road. We then took Serrano Canyon Trail which led us to a lush green valley. We went up a peak and came down it via Serrano Loop, got back on the Serrano Valley Trail. We went north to Old Boney Trail and took that to Sycamore Canyon Fire Road. We saw a large rattle snake on the side of the Old Boney Trail. It even shook its rattle before it slithered back in its hole. We took Sycamore Canyon Fire Road northeast to the campground where we had lunch. We returned along Sycamore Canyon Fire Road until we got to the Wood Canyon Vista Trail. We took this trail to the Overlook Fire Road then onto the Scenic Trail which took us back to our cars. The temperature was in the 50's with a slight hint of a marine layer when we started. On the way back, it was sunny with the temperature in the 70's. On the whole, it was a great day for hinking.
